July Update (Lily 12, Clara 10)

I know everyone raves about the fall. The leaves changing, sweater weather, football etc. I am firmly on team SUMMER. I don't care how hot it is give me the day in the lake or pool or on the back porch without any school activities for the kids any day.  This month we celebrated the 4th of July with friends and sleepovers. The girls had their final 3 camps of the summer (acting camp, scuba camp and art camp) and spend a week in Maine with their cousins. At the end of the month they got to meet their teachers and decorate their lockers.

Lily's July Update:

Lily was the most excited for the acting camp where performed Shrek the Musical. Lily was in the ensemble and played the fairy godmother. She was so upset when it was over because she really wanted it to not end. Lily asked to be signed up for an improv class with the same company so hopefully she'll get to see her friends then. This summer also marked the first time the girls flew solo up to Maine. Clara was an unaccompanied minor and Lily was a "young traveler"....which meant that for 2 hours Lily was in charge of Clara. Luckily they both made it to Maine in once piece.

Clara's July Update:

Clara was nervous but excited to get her scuba certification....especially when her instructor told them that in the quarry where they get certified there are paddle fish that can grow up to 6 feet. She saw one.....or at least we're pretty sure she did....since then she has needed a new glasses prescription. Now both the girls are certified to dive down to 30 feet. In Shrek the Musical Clara was in the ensemble and was a rooster. She had so much fun she asked to be signed up for an intro to acting class.

June Update (Lily 12, Clara 10)

After looking back on all we've done in June I'm imagining our itinerary being read out by a auctioneer or someone who calls horse races. June has included theater camp, sleepovers, softball camp, boating, visits from family and a week long trip to St. Augustine. Will it get less busy for the next month? No....it will not.

The girls started with the parks and rec theater camp where they performed a show about the founding fathers choosing a national bird/ animal. Lily was Martha Washington (she wanted to be Alexander Hamilton) and Clara was a bald eagle (I don't think she had a preference).

Lily's June Update:

Lily tried out a softball camp this month. After the first day I asked Lily (through facetime) how the camp went and she said "I hate it" and walked away from the iPad....she only made it to 2 of the 4 days of softball camp but I am so proud of her for trying something new. Lily's favorite parts of our trip to St. Augustine were the beach, the pool, the colonial experience we did, going to Islands of Adventure (it's better than Disney because the people at Disney are, according to her, "too happy") and swimming with a dolphin.

Clara's June Update:

Clara wanted to do the softball camp with Lily but her possibly broken wrist kept her out of it. Until we went back to the doctor and got her cast taken off and surprise her wrist was not broken after all. We were both relieved and thrilled that Clara would not have a cast on for the beach (what a nightmare)!! Clara's favorite parts of the trip to St. Augustine were the beach, the pool, Islands of Adventure (she rode her 1st 2 upside down roller coasters), the ghost walk and swimming with a dolphin.
