June Update (Lily 8, Clara 6)
We've really been enjoying summer so far at our house. We've gone swimming, had sleepovers, gone out on the boat, celebrated Father's Day, had family visits and added a new pet to our family. Lily and Clara were counting down the minutes until their cousins from Maine came into town which was complicated because Clara tested positive for Covid. Thank goodness that with everyone masking for over a week no one else tested positive. Also at the end of the month the girls Great Great Uncle came to visit from Connecticut. As soon as he arrived he started teaching the girls some mildly inappropriate songs.
Lily May Update:
A few months ago Lily decided that she wanted a leopard gecko. After tons of researching I said yes and we started getting all the things we would need to set up its enclosure. We attended a reptile expo in the middle of the month and Lily picked out a leopard gecko that she named Ron Weasley. While I think Ron is an ok pet because he's cute and will climb onto my shoulder.... he does eat live bugs though...so ehhhh. It would be so much easier if getting a gecko didn't also mean taking care of bugs. Also this month there were some decisions made about school for Lily. After several meetings with Lily's teachers, counselors, principal and vice principal and a month of summer school the decision was made for Lily to repeat the second grade. As you may have predicted telling Lily didn't go well....she yelled "why are you doing this to me....it's my life" at me before dramatically falling to the floor in tears. I figured this was going to be her reaction and just gave her some space to process it all. Two days later she said "you know what will be great about repeating 2nd grade? I'll be the oldest and tallest in my class!"
Lily loves:
spending time with cousins
quiet time
swimming
Lily doesn't like:
waking up early for the schools summer program
Clara May Update:
While Clara is always excited to hold Ron she is now no longer encouraged to help with the feeding. While I try to encourage the girls to help Clara has an unfortunate habit of picking up a live bug with the feeding tongs, screaming and dropping them on the floor.....which only adds to the chaos. Clara is excited because she wants to get a hamster and we've started collecting the cage, accessories etc. I'm sure CJ who killed a baby bunny in the backyard a few months ago will be very excited about the hamster too. Clara is also enjoying spending time with her cousins as well as swimming, playing in the foam machine and playing Barbies.
Clara loves:
Swimming
Barbies
the song "The best day of my life" by American Authors (much to Lily's dismay)
