Whoever first called them the dog days of summer was right for 2 reasons. It's been really, hot and sticky the past several weeks and also because Penny is thoughly enjoying herself. In July the girls went on a week long trip to Maine to visit cousins. It was the longest I have been away from them in a very long time but they loved it! While I was stuck at work they were up north swimming in the ocean, lakes, pools and waterparks of Maine. They have said that they want to go back next summer and that they would be ok with doing a direct flight and flying by themselves.
Lily's July Update:
This month both of the girls have earned a little bit more freedom during the day. Lily has throughly enjoyed not going to the school summer program... which I don't get because they go do fun things like ice skating, swimming at the pool, trips to Dollywood ect. She has also really gotten into a new book series called Gregor the Overlander. Lily's favorite things they did in Maine were the living history tour they took where they were able to dress in period clothes and go to an school house and learn to write with a quill. The other favorite thing was going to Bresca and the Honeybee, an ice cream shop right on a lakeside beach complete with floating dock.
Clara's July Update:
Clara's favorite parts of Maine were Old Orchard Beach and Bresca and the Honeybee. She also liked trying out some new food that my sister and brother in law made. Exotic dishes from afar like guachamole, hibachi and roasted cauliflower. When I asked her if she liked the cauliflower she said "uhh duh". Um no ma'am.... not "uhh duh" you didn't like it when you went up there. Clara has enjoyed taking Penny on walks with me to different spots where Penny can get in the water.
