May Update (Lily 7, Clara 5)

May has come and gone and it took my sanity along with it. Not really... I'm fine I promise... don't call anyone. I'm just having dreams every night about being lost in a maze of moving boxes. This month the girls have finally gotten to enjoy the warm weather. They spend a fair amount of time on the trampoline, playing with 1/4th of their toys (since the rest have been packed away) and hosting impromptu MMA style fights over things like the placement of a spoon or who got up the stairs 1st. These fights have led me to take some advice from an online moms' group and institute "sister points". The rules of sister points are simple 1) you can only earn points together by sharing, taking turns, encouraging and playing nicely with your sister, 2) the points can't get taken away for bad behavior, 3) you can't ask for sister points. At the end of the week the girls get to split the dollar equivalent of points to either spend at the end of the week, save up several weeks for a bigger item or use it for a special activity (ie: movie theater, bowling) (Fingers crossed) it seems to be working.

Lily’s May Update:

This month Lily finished the first grade, learned to do a front flip on the trampoline and had her hip hop dance recital. She did really well at her recital but afterwards got upset because she won't be able to go to the same dance studio in the fall since we're moving. She was eventually to calm down although I know she is nervous/ anxious about starting her the summer program at her new school. Lily hit another milestone this month when one of her friends from school called her (on my phone) and asked to talk to her. (tear) My baby is growing up. To spend their sister points I took them on their first trip to the store Five Below. Lily got a slinky, lip gloss, choker necklaces, and a small toy.

Lily loves:

-the store Five Below

-rodeos

-choker necklaces

-the fact that schools out.

Lily hates:

-that so many of her toys are packed

-having to share the trampoline with Clara

Clara’s May Update:

This month Clara has continued with gymnastics, learned to do a flip on the trampoline and started pranking people (aka me). This past weekend at lunch time I heated up some left overs and then went to help Lily with something at the table. When I came back my lunch was gone...I was so confused. It was gone because Clara had come into the kitchen, taken my lunch and hidden it in a kitchen cabinet. We talked about how it’s funny but not very nice to hide someone’s food. I don’t think the message got through because she hid the butter in the exact same way not five minutes later. With her sister points Clara bought a small Cinderella figurine, a slinky, pop rocks, a small stuffed puppy and an elephant keychain. The girls went with Andy’s mom to a rodeo and Clara decided that she wants to ride a sheep...anyone have a sheep that Clara can ride.

Clara Loves:

-doing flips and gymnastics (I constantly have to remind her that there is a time and a place for gymnastics and maybe the Doctor's office, the grocery store and the girls therapy sessions aren’t it.)

-sheep riding

-Dick and Jane books (she’s learning to read)

-pranking people

-Five Below

Clara Hates:

-that so many of her toys are packed

-that Lily brought home “toys” from her classroom treasure chest/ end of the year parties
