June Update (Lily 11, Clara 9)

I can confidently say we survived all the summer camps. The girls did week long soccer camp and performing arts camp through Maryville Parks and Rec and also an art camp. In June we've been enjoying the weather by going out on the boat a few times and taking penny to the dog park....she eats our stuff less frequently if she goes to the dog park. Penny graduated her puppy obediance class but she needs some graduate studies so I signed her up for the next class. The girls were also surprised by their cousins from Maine who came down to visit while their parents are on an anniversary vacay.

Lily's June Update:

Lily's favorite camps this summer have been the art camp and performing arts camp. At the performing arts camp they learned about making sets, props, learning lines and then put on a show. Lily was one of the main characters in her groups show about flying over the smokey mountains in a hot air balloon. The last time we went out on my parent's boat and tubed Lily and her youngest cousin bonked heads on the double tube and then another time the entire tube flipped which is not a usual occurance.

Clara's June Update:

Clara just finished up a 3 day long cheer camp at Maryville college and loved it. Along with Lily she did the performing arts camp and wants to do it again next year. Clara's group performed a show about a time traveling flying machine and Clara played a "southern person" and a "musican in Nashville". This month we celebrated Clara's 1/2 birthday with a friends arts and crafts themed sleepover and a family party.

May Update (Lily 11, Clara 9)

Welp.....I fell for it. The trap that makes parents think "once school is out things will slow down". You imagine peaceful afternoons reading a book on the backporch or reading a book while the kids swim....pretty much just sitting down and getting to read a book. You've forgotten way back in February when you signed the kids up for week long summer camps and they go to the schools summer camp program. Everyother day is a field trip and heven help you if you forget sunscreen, the required camp shirt or a paper bag lunch. I promise I'm fine over here...I'm just using you guys as a therapist.....please don't charge me.

Both girls finished up the year on high notes. They both had all things that make the end of the school year fun including field days, park day, popsicles, end of the year concerts and events.

Lily's May Update:

For Lily the end of the school year was bittersweet. She knew she would miss her friends but was also excited to get a break for homework and anxiety around school. The 4th graders at her school read a book that included a flat boat. For a project they all had to build flat boats and have the float down a stream in Maryville. I handed this project over to Pop and they worked on in for a few weeks. Lily's didn't tip over or take on too much water so I call that a success. Lily had her last soccer game at the beginning of May and they won. Also Lily has really been enjoying boxing and even got in the ring for some sparring last week.

Clara's May Update:

This month ended with Clara's 3rd grade "Clap out". Parent's teachers and other students line the hallways and clap for the 3rd graders becuase they're moving up to the intermediate school for 4th grade. The rest of the school year concluded with a chorus concert and Clara's last soccer game (they also won). Her big soccer news was that she scored the last goal of the season (a penalty kick).  Clara was also excited for no homework but was sad to miss her friends everyday.
