August (Lily 3, Clara 20 months)

Lily's August update:

I can't believe the summer is almost over (although in the south we still have at least 2 months of summer left). This month Lily has been making a bucket list which so far includes: be a hero, shoot a bow and arrow, be a pirate, rock climb and make jewelry. I can't wait to see what it includes this time next year. She's also gotten very talkative and dramatic. She has a talent for seeing things in a new way that always catch me off guard. For example, she got to watch the movie Brave recently and cried....not because she was scared but because she now wants a pet bear. She came to me tonight asking if the girls from Despicable Me could come visit.....in desperation I told her I would have to call Gru and ask.....can't wait to talk my way out of that one. The big news in Lily's life is that her car seat has finally be turned around. On the way to school the first day she kept yelling at me not to hit other cars and telling me that I was driving to fast. I'm happy to report that she now trusts me not to hit other cars.

Clara's May update:

Clara's speech has skyrocketed this month. She understands so much.....and if you ask her a question and she doesn't understand she just says "ummmm". Clara is also becoming more assertive especially around Lily and CJ. She tells them NO all the time. She also wants to do EVERYTHING that Lily is doing. Heaven help us if she doesn't get the same treat, food, cup etc as Lily. She has moved up to the next class at school and is loving it.  She is currently getting all 4 incisors at the same time which means she has her pacifier a lot more that I would like but oh well....you do what you gotta do.

What Clara's been saying:
Lily = "NiNy"
CJ= "Hay Hay"
Elmo ="Momo"
Gook = "Milk"

August has been crazy in the best meaning of the word. Along with our weekly trips to gymnastics where Lily discovered the climbing wall and Clara continued to channel the coyote and run headfirst into mats, foam pits or bounce houses.

We had several of Lily's friends come over for playdates. They always enjoy sophisticated activities like playing dress up and painting the deck with water and painting the dog with water.
what a patient dog

they were being so dramatic it was fantastic

My mom and I took the girls to watch the Tennessee band practice. Clara loved it....Lily wanted to join the band right then and there and (because she hadn't taken a nap that day at daycare) it was impossible to convince her otherwise.
They came and picked me up from work

but she knows how to play the tuba....why can't she join the band now?

The next weekend we tried to go to the first Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon festival.....along with everyone. We never even made it to the parking lot the traffic was so bad and according to my dad "never go to the first annual anything". Instead we opted to visit my grandma to feed the ducks and go out to dinner before spending the night at my parent's house. While feeding bread to the ducks and fish Lily ran over to me and exclaimed "MOMMY the fish will eat my spit". Leave it to Daddy to teach her all the gross stuff.

some of the ducks got bread.....some of the bread ended up in Clara's tummy

The girls have also gotten into water colors this month. Lily enjoys painting with them....Clara enjoys eating them....we're working on that.

The next week my mom and I took the girls to Dollywood. We had gone to splash country a few weeks before but I don't have any pictures of that because water and cell phones don't mix. I do however have pictures from Dollywood. Right off the bat we learned that Clara doesn't like being any higher than she can be lifted over Daddy's head. On the ferris wheel she kept saying "out Nana" every time the ride stopped to let someone on. The girls love the kiddie rides but this time Lily tried (and Loved) the very mini "tower of terror" ride and they both loved driving the cars around the track.

That weekend we visited my brother in law, his wife, my nieces and their twins. The rest of Andy's family was there as well and the girls enjoyed spending time with everyone. Our annual cabin weekend is going to be crazy this year with a 4 year old, a 23 month old and 2 6 month olds.
it was the biggest dollhouse Clara had ever played with.

At the end of the month we visited with aunt and cousin who were stopping on their way to Nashville. They brought their dog who was a big hit with the girls.
